Leni's Story

Leni lives with his parents and has Autism. He is fascinated by the local lake and wants to walk into it. He tries to leave the house and run to the lake when his parents are busy or distracted. His parents are very scared that they will not know that Leni has run off and he might put himself in a dangerous situation.

The Children's Service EMS Assessor thought that door sensors linked to a pager could alert Leni's parents if he opened a door.

The EMS Assessor contacted Te Wana Ltd and we supplied Alert-it door sensors and pager. The pager was programmed to identify which door sensors have been activated so Leni's parents could go to the right door. The door sensors were attached with stick pads to keep the landlord happy.

Te Wana Ltd programmed the door sensors so that they could be disarmed by inserting a key into them and removing it. This means that there is no dangling key for Leni to grab. It also means that the door alarms can be disarmed for periods if necessary.

Another advantage of Alert-it door sensors is that you can cancel an activation by pressing the CALL button. This means that the parents can cancel the alarm on the pager at the door quickly as they run to catch up with Leni.
