Finding the right Epilepsy Monitor
The Epilepsy Monitors Te Wana Ltd supply do not actually detect Epilepsy. They detect sudden physiological and vital signs changes, associated with seizure activity. To identify the right Epilepsy Monitor for you, you need to be able to describe how a seizure presents itself for you or the person you care about.
Each person's seizures tend to be unique to them and you/they may well go through stages or phases in the seizures presentation. Here are some of the signs that we can identify and alert for through that presentation with our Epilepsy Monitors.
Shaking - associated with a Tonic-Clonic seizure
Raised heart rates during a seizure
Enuresis resulting from a seizure
Shouting out (audible sounds during the early phases of a seizure)
Vomiting resulting from a seizure
Changes in breathing - alerts generated if briefing stops briefly during a seizure
It is critical that you call us on 021 418 067 or email info@TeWanaLtd.co.nz and talk through how the seizure presents itself so that we can help you find the right Epilepsy Monitor. There is a degree of trialling, tweaking and adjusting, which is why we offer full support to set up the Epilepsy Monitor. Sometimes it is a challenge to find the right monitor no matter how much you tweak and refine the monitor you have, which is why we offer a full 30-day money-back guarantee.
Seizure Management Plans (SMP's)
We strongly recommend that you connect with your local epilepsy support organisation and look to draw up a Seizure Management Plan. SMP's generally have the following information and are ideally signed off by a GP:
How your seizures present
What types of seizures you have
What if any medication you take
Potential triggers for your seizures
Prior indicators
Management of seizure during and after seizure - so people know how to support you
Identifying risks and mitigations to minimise the impact of seizures on you
Night-time support requirements
Plans for the administration of emergency medication if needed
Epilepsy New Zealand has Educators across most regions of Aotearoa. You can book them in to help you develop a Seizure Management Plan tailored for you.
